The Spitfire Grill
The story of new beginnings and friendship between two strong women told with folk-inspired music.
When it first premiered in 2001, just three days before the terrorist attacks, critic John Simon wrote that The Spitfire Grill was “sheer nourishment….as inviting as a warm winter blanket.”
Stranger and ex-convict, Percy Talbott arrives in a small Wisconsin town for a fresh start. She befriends Hannah Ferguson, the wizened and crotchety owner of the town’s only restaurant. The two women will end up changing each other’s lives forever in this moving and deeply spiritual story told with a lilting, folk-inspired score. Fans of Bright Star will love The Spitfire Grill. Director's Notes:
For our spring selection, we take the theme of starting over to a new extreme with the uplifting and inspiring folk musical, The Spitfire Grill. The musical tells the story of an ex-convict who attempts to begin her life anew working at a small-town diner. She forms a strong and surprising friendship with the crotchety owner of the diner, and they manage to save the diner and each other in the process. We are especially excited that this musical offers us the opportunity to tell stories of hope and courage that center on strong women, like those who make up our base of supporters.
