Auditions Now Open for Matilda

Auditions are open to performers ages 9 and older. Auditions will be held on April 6th and 8th.
For this production, we are seeking 9 children (of Elementary/Middle School Age) for principal and featured roles, 8 principal adults, as well as an ensemble of teenagers and adults who also play featured roles.
Elementary School and Middle School students will be seen on Thursday, April 6th from 5 pm – 9 pm in the Black Box at the Holly Theatre.
High School students and Adults will be seen on Saturday, April 8th from 10 am – 2 pm in the Black Box at the Holly Theatre.
Callbacks will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, April 11th at the Holly Theatre Annex.
Please prepare a short selection (no more than 1 minute) of a contemporary musical theatre song. Please bring a backing track to perform with. A speaker will be provided. Following your vocal audition, you will be asked to read a selection from the script. Once all auditioning performers in a time block have completed their vocal auditions and cold reads, there will be a group dance call. Please come dressed to move.

Rehearsals
Rehearsals will begin on April 25th. They will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm – 9 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm. Tech will begin on Tuesday, July 11th.
Performances
Matilda will run from July 21st – August 6th: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm.

MATILDA WORMWOOD:
An imaginative girl who is clever and wise beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.
MISS AGATHA TRUNCHBULL: The tyrannical headmistress at Matilda’s school who despises children.
MISS HONEY: Matilda’s kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull.
MR. WORMWOOD: Matilda’s uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used car salesman.
MRS. WORMWOOD: Matilda’s self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer.
MICHAEL WORMWOOD: Matilda’s older brother. He’s not very bright and favored by their parents.
BRUCE: Matilda’s classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.
LAVENDER: Matilda’s classmate and friend.
MRS. PHELPS: A nice librarian.
THE ESCAPOLOGIST: A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imaginations. This role will involve puppetry.
THE ACROBAT: A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imaginations. This role will involve puppetry.
AMANDA: One of Matilda’s classmates.
NIGEL: One of Matilda’s classmates.
ERIC: One of Matilda’s classmates.
ALICE: One of Matilda’s classmates.
HORTENSIA: One of Matilda’s classmates.
TOMMY: One of Matilda’s classmates.
RUDOLPHO: Mrs. Wormwood’s ballroom dance partner.
DOCTOR: Mrs. Wormwood’s doctor when she goes into labor with Matilda. This role will also serve as a member of the Ensemble or double with another character.
CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINER: A party entertainer at the start of the show. This role will also serve as a member of the Ensemble or double with another character.
BIG KIDS: An Ensemble of older students who attend Crunchem Hall. Some may be involved in puppetry sequences.
ADULT ENSEMBLE: Parents, Ballroom Dancers, Various Roles throughout. Some may be involved in puppetry sequences.
