FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Holly Children’s Theatre
presents SEUSSICAL Live On Stage, March 13-16 combining
13 of Dr. Seuss’ works in a fanstastical, magical, musical extravaganza!
Notable composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought
to life in Seussical all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including
The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie,
and the Whos of Whoville! These
classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by JoJo, a young
boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! As each story
unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle
themes are; making this musical one that appeals to all ages. The score
emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to
pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk! Shows run at 7 p.m. March 13-16 and 2 p.m. March 15-16. All shows will be on the main stage of the Holly Theatre and are presented by seven adult leads, one child lead, and a chorus and supporting cast of 22 youth. Tickets cost $5 for students/children and $9 for adults.
Gerrells is also a fifth-grade
teacher at Long Branch Elementary School and will also get the chance
to have his school see Seussical for two daytime performances.
So far, the Holly has booked 5,000 students for school day performances
of this show (either going to the schools to perform or with students
coming to the theater for field trips).
The school day cast is comprised
of Judson Wright (The Cat in the Hat), Michael Arens Horton the Elephant,
also the music director), Colleen Green (The Sour Kangaroo), Kate McElliott
(Mayzie la Bird, also the producer and Education Director for the Holly),
Dana Kelson (Gertrude McFuzz), Emilee Arnold (Wickersham Brother and
Mrs. Mayor), Christian Mims (Wickersham Brother and Mr. Mayor), and
Taylor Priday and Austin Hoover (alternating dates playing JoJo). Fifteen year old Jacob Allen will take over at The Cat in the Hat for
the main stage showings and Jonathan Krohn and Hanna Slaughter will
take over and Mr. and Mrs. Mayor. The rest of the school day cast
will continue on their roles for the show on the main stage, and added
to that will be the 22 youth playing supporting roles and an ensemble
of Whos and Jungle Animals. The show is choreographed by 16 year old
Carly Berg, who recently choreographed Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.!
at the Holly and for the Holly Children’s Theatre Competition Team
(Carly also won a “Best Stage Presence” medal and “Top Female
Vocal Soloist” trophy at the Disney competition).
This is a show
not to be missed! So let your toes tap, your fingers snap, and
your imagination run wild, for "If you open your mind, Oh, the
Thinks you will find Lining up to get loose! Oh, the Thinks you can
think! Oh, the Thinks you can think When you think about Seuss!!"
